This review proposes to carry out a state-of-the-art associated with micro-arc oxidation. Firstly, the different aspects of growth mechanisms oxides are detailed. Then, formation micro-arcs and case soft-spark treatment discussed. electrolytic reactions involved in layer construction outlined. We focused on influence aluminium alloys appearance coating its characteristics before considering electrolyte formulation. have concentrated some our efforts silicate-based electrolytes, mainly used research industry. The importance electrical parameters is detailed later. main factors studied literature current source, density, frequency duration, duty cycle. also noted phase compositions identified literature. Finally, since process particularly advantageous for protecting surfaces parts against wear, we conclude this by presenting work tribological properties coating. In final section, highlight wear-reducing Particular attention paid relationship between nature substrates used, role counterpart choice friction wear results.
